How to Get A Kentucky Real Estate License

You are just now beginning your journey into the world of real estate. You are probably asking yourself a lot of questions like:

To begin, letโ€™s map a quick timeline on how to get licensed in Kentucky:

Prequalificationโ€™s include: You must be 18 years or older and you must have a high school diploma or high school diploma equivalent.


  1. Complete your 96-hour pre-licensing course (ours is online and only $395.00, click here).
  2. Pass your final course exam. You have the option to take this course completely online or in our office in Wilder, KY. 
  3. Complete your state mandated background check. Every student must submit a set of finger tips to the state to do a background test. This can range from $50-85.00 dollars depending on where you go.
  4. Pass your Kentucky Real Estate Exam. A minimum score of 75% is required to pass and two re-takes are permitted. The exam is 130 questions including a state portion and a national portion.
  • You will be given 150 minutes for the 80 national exam questions.
  • You will be given 90 minutes for the 50 state specific questions.

  5. Complete your application with the Kentucky Department of Professional Licensing. You must apply within 60 days of passing your exam.

How long does it take to become a real estate agent in Kentucky?

As you begin your new career or you begin to consider transitioning from your old career, you are probably wondering how long is this process? The most time-consuming aspects of obtaining your license is completing the 90-hour pre-licensing course and obtaining an FBI criminal background check. The background check takes about 12 to 16 weeks and the online pre-licensing courses are taken at your own pace. Our advice is to plan ahead and stay consistent each week with completing the courses.
