how to obtain a kentucky real ESTATE lICENSE via Reciprocity


    Are you looking to get a real estate license in Kentucky? If you're currently licensed in Florida, Tennessee, or Illinois, you're in luck! Kentucky holds reciprocity agreements with these states that would allow you to complete fewer course hours and skip the national portion of the licensing exam. Before you try to get a Kentucky Real Estate License through reciprocity, you need to first make sure you meet one of the below eligibility requirements:


    Sales Associate:


    Florida: Must be actively licensed in Florida as a sales associate for a minimum of one (1) year immediately preceding the submission of your reciprocal application.

    Tennessee: Must be actively licensed in Tennessee as an associate broker for a minimum of one (1) year immediately preceding the submission of your reciprocal application.

    Illinois: Must be actively licensed in Illinois as a broker for a minimum of one (1) year immediately preceding the submission of your reciprocal application.


    Broker:


    Florida: actively licensed in Florida as a broker for a minimum of two (2) years immediately preceding the submission of your reciprocal application.

    Tennessee: actively licensed in Tennessee as a broker for a minimum of three (3) years immediately preceding the submission of your reciprocal application.

    Illinois: actively licensed in Illinois as a managing broker or be eligible for a managing broker's license for a minimum of two (2) years immediately preceding the submission of your reciprocal application.

    Seven Simple Steps to Agent Reciprocity:


    1. Complete your 40-hour Kentucky Reciprocity Course

    2. Complete the course final exam

    • Once you've completed the course, you are required to pass a proctored final exam with a minimum score of 75%.


    3. Submit the background check

    • You must submit your fingerprints to the Kentucky State Police or FBI for a criminal background check. Please click here for more information.


    4. Request your history/letter of good standing

    • This must be requested from your state real estate commission and sent directly to the Kentucky Real Estate Commission. 

    5. Pass the Kentucky State Exam

    • You will only need to pass the Kentucky state portion of the PSI real estate state exam. This includes 50 state-specific questions. You will need a 75% or higher to pass this exam.     6. Affiliate with a broker registered in Kentucky

    • You will need a real estate brokerage registered in Kentucky to hire you so that they can hold your activated license.

    7. File your license application

    • You can either mail in your application or submit your application electronically to the Kentucky Real Estate Commission. During the application process, you will purchase errors and omissions insurance to have your real estate license activated.
