How to Get Your Real Estate License In Oklahoma

As they say in the Broadway musical, โ€œWe know we belong to the land and the land we belong to is grand!โ€ Why not sell that land as a licensed real estate agent in Oklahoma!?

Here is how to get your real estate license in just a few steps:

  • Oklahoma offers two levels of licensure. If you are a fresh face in the real estate industry, opt for the Provisional Sales Associateโ€™s license. This is ideal for agents who are just starting their career in the field. You may also hear it referred to as a PSA. This license is valid for one year from date of issue. The second level of licensure is Sales Associate (SA), which mandates in its requirement of 21 additional hours of continuing education. This license is renewable every 3 years. A new licensee may begin their career as a PSA then move up to SA with a little more education. In order to convert from a Provisional Sales Associate (PSA) to a Sales Associate (SA) License, one must complete the 45-hour Post Licensing Course.

  • The initial step, whether PSA or SA, is to complete the state required 90 hours of real estate education from an accredited provider. You can find the course right here on this blog! The certificate of completion is good for up to 3 years. The good news is these days most real estate education platforms are online (subtle hint). This means that you can curl up on your yoga pants or in your favorite PJs, grab a cup of coffee and start working on your new career from the comfort of home. You can study at your own pace and on your own schedule. If you are already working from home due to the Covid pandemic, this may be the perfect time to get on the path to a new career. You can learn more here about course plans for every budget!

  • Contact your local identigo to schedule your appointment for digital fingerprints. This is the first step in the required background check process. This process can take 60 days or longer so it is best to complete your background check prior to the application process.

  • After completing your 90 hours of pre-licensing education, you must submit your application and proof of citizenship to the Oklahoma Real Estate Commission. There is a small fee required and it is always best to check with OREC as these fees are subject to change.

  • Finally, it is time to schedule your exam with PSI. You must pass the exam with a 75% or better to be eligible for your license. More info on scheduling your exam with PSI can be found here
